Position Description: Position description: The Mycotic Diseases Branch Epidemiology Team is looking for a candidate to participate in a project examining invasive mold infections following flooding from hurricanes. As background, invasive mold infections include aspergillosis and mucormycosis and have high mortality in immunosuppressed patients. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will be trained in the epidemiologic techniques and program management skills needed to conduct surveillance for invasive mold infections, conduct medical chart reviews, and analyze surveillance data to inform public health action.

The candidate will learn epidemiologic skills including case report form development, and surveillance database management and analysis using REDCap software, R and or SAS. The position will include opportunities to interact with state and local partners and diverse programs across CDC.

Learning objectives include: - Primary data collection methods, including medical chart reviews and interviews - Setting up data management systems, including use of software like REDCap - Tracking process measures with local and state public health partners - Using statistical software like R, SAS or Stata - Creating automated data quality checks - Conducting data analysis for public health action - Participating in interpretation of findings and creating educational materials for hurricane preparedness

Qualifications: Qualifications: Master’s degree or currently pursuing a doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields (medicine, epidemiology, statistics, and other public health degrees).

Preferred skills: - Strong proficiency in statistical software (preferably R) - Excellent analytic skills and some experience in data management and or conducting epidemiological analyses - Knowledge of medical charts and or clinical terminologies - Strong written and verbal communication skills

Organization Description: Organization description: CDC’s Mycotic Diseases Branch (MDB) is dedicated to preventing illness and death from fungal diseases as one of the only public health groups in the world devoted these diseases. We work with partners to understand who gets fungal infections and why by using epidemiology and microbiology research approaches. We also investigate outbreaks and develop interventions to prevent fungal diseases. The Mycotic Diseases Branch is in the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne and Environmental Diseases (DFWED) in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at CDC.
