Purpose: Support the building and main maintenance of data management and GIS reso resources for the MDHHS Toxicology and Resp Response Section.
Duties and Responsibilities: Duty 1: Assemble data from laboratory r results, reports and Section activities. ( (40%) • Obtain, process and QA/QC spatial and non-spatial data to allow production of s standardized tables, database and GIS content • Develop and maintain metadata for d datasets created or modified by the Section • Assist with the design of stable, r reliable and effective spreadsheets and d databases to track, compile, analyze and m maintain datasets housed within the Section • Monitor and maintain long-term data st streams to ensure that datasets are current
Duty #2: Create data-related products. (30%) • Assist with production of charts, graphs, maps and other data-driven content f for studies, investigations, reports and e educational materials • Prepare process and content s summaries for data libraries and data p products • Assist with the design of surveys, o outreach materials and other tools used for d data acquisition • Perform spatial analysis on health and and population data using ArcGIS
Duty #3: Provide data processing and p product support. (20%) • Assist with the creation of databases, GIS datasets or derived products for special projects inside and outside of the Section by management or other State Departments on an as-needed basis • Other duties to support Section a activities as assigned • Research and suggest new database p products, services and protocols • All other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor of science degree in a healt health, IT or environmental field; cours coursework or training in GIS and sufficient exper experience with the ArcGIS software package to pr to provide the required knowledge, skills and a and abilities. Experience: Two or more years of training and and experience working as a GIS and data tec technician
Important Skills and Characteristics: • Understanding of data management in M MS Excel and MS Access • Excellent organizational skills • Detail oriented with excellent data q quality control skills • Willing to work with subject area e experts to support data and reporting needs • Knowledge of Excel and Access r reporting and form design • Strong verbal and written c communication skills • Experience with Visual Basic for Ap Applications and SQL
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Physical effort will be typical of an office position using a computer for 95% of daily work time. Requires valid vehicle operator’s licens license and occasional travel within the State, State, including overnights.
