As part of the Division of Epidemiology and Population Health, this full-time Ep Epidemiologist II position's primary fu function is to lead the health department's ef effort to prevent and control sexually tr transmitted infections in the Fairfax Health Di District. Activities will include, but are no not limited to, supervision of disease in investigation specialists, case in investigation, sexually transmitted in infection case surveillance, cluster and ou outbreak detection, report writing, pr providing verbal education to the public and pr providers, community and healthcare partner ou outreach and collaboration, using quality im improvement methodologies to maximize pr program efficiency, designing and de development of epidemiologic studies to fu further understanding of sexually tr transmitted infection epidemiology in the Fa Fairfax Health District. Illustrative Duties •Design and develop methodology or t techniques for epidemiological studies a and/or public health surveillance systems; •Analyze and interpret epidemiological data; •Provide technical supervision of assigned s staff involved in data collection and m management; •Act as liaison with other agencies on c collaborations for disease surveillance, c control, prevention and health intervention a activities; •Design data management systems and oversee d data collection methodology; •Design and deliver training to enhance e epidemiological work within the Health D Department; •Establish and maintain operations and q quality assurance tools; •Communicate with and make presentations and r reports to health care providers, community o organizations and the public on study r results; •Oversee study and program operations; •Consult with health care planners and p public health officials to assist in policy d development, planning for future service n needs, and the development of interventions b based on research findings; •Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities •Knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics or c closely related public health field with e emphasis on epidemiology that is equivalent t to a master's degree; •Knowledge of epidemiological and biostatistical biostatistical principles and methods; •Knowledge of medical or related scientific d disciplines; •Knowledge of spreadsheets and database s systems; •Knowledge of epidemic and outbreak c characteristics; •Epidemiological knowledge of communicable d diseases, chronic conditions and other p public health issues; •Knowledge of the characteristics of p populations and demographic principles; •Knowledge of applied research methods and t techniques; •Knowledge of public health intervention t techniques and principles; •Knowledge of survey instruments, data c collection and computerized database s systems; •Basic knowledge of human resources m management techniques and principles; •Knowledge of computer programming; •Ability to communicate effectively (oral a and written); •Ability to analyze and interpret data; •Ability to supervise staff; •Ability to translate medical information in a clear and concise manner for non-technical a audiences; •Ability to follow research protocols w without compromising confidentiality of i information; •Ability to establish and maintain effective w working relationships with others; •Ability to work as a part of a m multidisciplinary team; •Ability to work with the public; •Ability to develop and implement a assignments with multiple dimensions.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in public health (MPH) or master of science (MS) with graduate work in epidemiology and/or biostatistics plus two years of experience in epidemiology-related work work.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's l license. AED-Required within 60 days CPR -Required within 60 days

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be req required to complete a criminal background che check, child protective services check, dri driving record check, and a sanction scr screening to the satisfaction of the emp employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have knowledge of public health principles and practices of sexually transmitted infection control and prevention. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively using written, verbal, and electronic methods. Ideal candidate must be results driven, detail-oriented, and demonstrate effective and customer oriented, and demonstrate effective and customer-oriented communication skills. Must have exper have experience with data analysis and database m database management using statistical software. software. Ability to think quickly and apply public hea public health knowledge to complex situations situations to be able to provide clients with appro with appropriate public health recommenda recommendations and education. Prior supervisor supervisory experience or demonstrated work experience experience monitoring and directing the work of others of others is preferred. Demonstrated use of quality im quality improvement methodology to improve a public hea public health outcome is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job is generally sedentary in nature, however however, visual acuity is required to read data on data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to able to operate keyboard driven equipment.
