Position Description: A key member of a research team focusing on using novel social network strategies to improve health interventions in rural settings, the Assistant Program Manager will be based in New Haven with up to 50% travel to Honduras (primarily to the Department of Copan). Reporting directly to the Research Program Manager, the Assistant Program Manager will play a key role in projects primarily focused on the human microbiome and improving health through social network-based intervention strategies.

The position will be responsible for on- the-ground problem-solving and will take part in day-to-day implementation of research activities in rural Honduras, and liaise regularly with Honduran partner implementation team. With supervision from the Program Manager, the Assistant Program Manager will be expected to successfully help coordinate and oversee research data collection activities as well as monitor continuous implementation of established research protocols in the field.

Along with the Program Manager, the Assistant Program Manager will be a primary point of contact for the research team in Honduras, communicating project status to the US team, as well as play a key role in engaging stakeholders (e.g., community residents, local and national Honduran government officials, NGOs) in our research activities as well as processing and summarizing data using scientific or statistical techniques.

Specifically, the Assistant Program Manager will assist in the development of the operational strategy for data collection with the Yale team, reporting on progress and challenges in the field, and making recommendations for possible solutions. They will help manage progress toward established benchmarks and goals and will communicate progress, challenges and issues proactively with the Program Manager and Project Director. Responsible for preparing project meeting agendas and minutes as needed. Works cooperatively to build and steward critical relationships with collaborative partners. Other duties as assigned by project leadership.

Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in a related discipline and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications: • Demonstrated abilities with public health research data collection work or monitoring and evaluation activities related to public health, global health, quality improvement or related work. Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting resource- poor and/or other vulnerable populations. • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish. • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to rural Honduras in response to project needs. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, fostering team work and positive relationships. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve problems proactively with excellent attention to detail and independent follow-through. • Preferred Education and Experience: Degree in Public Health, Health Administration and/or behavioral interventions preferred but not required. Candidates with Bachelor's Degree and relevant experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Some experience with research data analysis with at least one statistical programming language or package (preferably R, PYTHON, STATA, SAS or MATLAB) preferred.
