Position Description: Job Summary

The Health Equity Intern will support GSCN Research Scientists, Project Managers, and Research Associates on projects related to health equity, health disparities, and community engagement. The Intern will be mentored by GSCN staff, and will be exposed to learning opportunities (e.g., conferences, webinars, etc.) related to health equity, social determinants of health, etc. The Intern will have the opportunity to engage with national stakeholders, and community organizations that serve a wide range of at-risk populations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of research and evaluation projects.

• Conduct and document literature reviews.

• Support the development of measurement tools including assessments, surveys, and interview guides.

• Prepare surveys for distribution by formatting paper forms or building electronic surveys.

• Aid in data collection efforts.

• Aid in the development of codebooks to ensure accurate data entry and storage.

• Transcribe qualitative data gathered from interviews, and prepare transcribed data for coding.

• Enter quantitative data into spreadsheets ensuring the appropriate data structure and security.

• Prepare data for analysis by cleaning, coding, and merging data.

• Support the development of project deliverables, including reports, presentations, and manuscripts.

• Participate in health equity (and social determinants of health) training opportunities, virtually and in-person as available.

Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, social sciences, or health- related field.

• Experience working with community organizations and/or underserved populations.

• Research related experience (e.g., data collection).

• High level of attention to detail and ability to problem solve.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Organization Description: The Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition (GSCN) is a non- profit research and evaluation organization providing scientific expertise and partnership in the key public health areas of healthy eating active living, food insecurity, policy advocacy and health equity. GSCN specializes in the development and implementation of mixed-methods approaches, which are primarily focused on measuring changes that occur through policy, systems, and environmental interventions. GSCN works nationally by providing research and evaluation services to communities, non-profits, academic and government institutions, and policymakers.
