Position Description: Identifies and implements required action step steps to minimize occupationally linked morb morbidity and mortality. Explores poss possibilities of grant support from the Nati National Institute for Occupational Safety and and Health (NIOSH) as well as other groups rela related to occupational safety and/or dise disease surveillance.

Works with other epidemiology staff in the di division to strengthen the Adult Blood Lead su surveillance program, including but not li limited to outreach/education, worker no notification, and preparation of reports. Pr Provides expertise in the area of industrial hy hygiene in matters related to actual and po potential occupational health hazards in involving schools, Commonwealth in institutions, private sector workplaces and ot other facilities. Collaborates with others in in the division on Health Assessments and ot other studies and/or investigations in the ar area of occupational/environmental health. Pe Performs other related duties as needed.

Researches and compiles data about the individual "on-site" visit relative to occupational health principles involved with toxicology, effects upon anatomy and physiology by industrial chemical processes and the like, and makes determinations on findings consistent with OSHA, Right-to-Know, and other appropriate standards or regulations.

Prepares educational material on, and/or provides training in, specific occupational or environmentally linked diseases, industrial, chemical, and physical hazards, methods for prevention, and principles of industrial hygiene.

Prepares, and/or assists employers in the preparation and implementation of hazard control, loss prevention and accident control systems, risk analysis, and occupational safety and health trend analyses.

Prepares and/or initiates preparatory activities prior to consultation visits in the aspects of: reviewing appropriate work processes and associated hazards, relevant sampling strategies and techniques, and applicable federal and state codes and regulations.

Prepares written reports of field visit findings which contain identification and nature of specific/potential hazards, number of instances of hazards and their locations, reference to OSHA, Right Know, and other appropriate standards or regulati regulations.

As directed, provides guidance to employers for achieving self-sufficiency in contro controlling conditions related to employee safety safety and health through action plans which integr integrate management systems with plan develo development, targets time and resource alloca allocations, establishes realistic and measur measurable goals, and systematizes progress tracki tracking.

Reviews and interprets written documentation (bio (biological monitoring, audiograms, medical reco records, air sampling results, and accident repo reports) to assess success of inhouse cont controls.

Advises employers or others about any un unhealthy conditions, discusses options for al alleviation, and offers the method or means to to effect elimination of the condition, if fe feasible.

May conduct follow-up visits to ensure rem removal of a serious hazard condition or rev reviews documentary evidence certifying the eli elimination of the violation.

As appropriate, makes enforcement r recommendations in cases concerning failure t to alleviate a serious health hazard.

Qualifications: Two years of professional environmental protection or environmental health program experience; and a bachelor’s degree in a na natural, physical, chemical, or biological sc science, or a closely related field; or • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Organization Description: This is a professional position in the Department's Division of Environmental Health Epidemiology, in the Bureau of Epidemiology. The employee in this position conducts consultation visits for the purpose of identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and controlling occupational or environmental health hazards; assists employers and/or others to recognize and prevent occupational or environmental health hazards; and recommends effective controls to fulfill organization’s mission of protecting the public health. This is a designated emergency response position.

Additional Information: Preferred Experience: One year of field experience in industrial hygiene/occupational health and a bachelor's degree OR certification as an industrial hygienist OR a bachelor’s degree with at least 6 (six) credit course work in industrial hygiene/occupational health/environmental health.
