Campus Information California State University, Sacramento, is located in the heart of Northern California, one of the most beautiful, diverse and rapidly growing areas in the country. The 300-acre campus, just five miles from the State Capitol, is situated along the American River parkway that offers miles of trails and recreational access to the city's two rivers, Folsom Lake and the historic Sacramento riverfront. Growth in the region has provided significant opportunities for faculty research and engagement with civic and business organizations as well as extensive research and internship opportunities for the University's approximately 27,500 students. The University, where quality teaching is a top priority, offers instruction leading toward the bachelor's degree in 58 disciplines, the master's degree in 41 disciplines, two independent doctoral degrees and one joint doctoral degree, and houses numerous research and community service centers.

Hiring Department Information The Public Health Department at Sacramento State currently serves over 350 undergraduate major and expressed interest students. The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Health Science and will offer a Master of Public Health starting in Fall, 2020. The BS in Health Science offers a broad foundation in public health practice, along with specific preparation in one of three areas of concentration: Community Health Education, Healthcare Administration, and Occupational Health & Safety. The new MPH program offers a concentration in Health Promotion, Policy and Leadership and is designed to connect students with regional partners and prepare future leaders in public health.

Assistant Professor, Public Health Duties & Responsibilities • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in general public health. • Engage in scholarly activities in an area related to public health. • Provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students in public health. • Supervise student internships. • Serve on and provide leadership to department, college and/or university committees. • Engage in community service. • Develop new undergraduate or graduate courses in the discipline, as needed. • Willingness to participate in off- campus, distance, and distributed education courses.

Required Qualifications Education: • Doctorate in Public Health or closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD, candidates will be required to complete the doctoral degree by August 2020.

Knowledge and Abilities: • Candidates must have a record of university teaching experience and be able to teach in one or more areas in public health, such as health promotion, healthcare administration, health and safety, health policy, public health leadership, or community health. • Candidates must be an accomplished or promising scholar with clear research/scholarly activities or interests in the area of public health. • Candidates must exhibit a capacity to utilize instructional technology in teaching, including hybrid and online course delivery. • Candidates must demonstrate an ability to interact and work cooperatively in a manner that promotes collaboration within the program, department, and across campus.

Preferred Qualifications • Completion of a master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) or closely related field. • Evidence of professional collaboration with diverse populations in public health. • Demonstrated experience teaching both online and classroom settings. • Demonstrated college classroom and online curriculum development experience.

Appointment This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning with the Fall 2020 semester. Salary at time of hire will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.

Candidate will be required to provide official transcripts of their highest degree earned and must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

Assistant/Associate Professor, Community Health Education Duties & Responsibilities • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in general public health and community health promotion and education. • Engage in scholarly activities in an area related to public health. • Provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students in public health. • Supervise student internships. • Serve on and provide leadership to department, college and/or university committees. • Engage in community service. • Develop new undergraduate or graduate courses in the discipline, as needed. • Willingness to participate in off- campus, distance, and distributed education courses.
