Position Description: This is a 32-40-hour position working onsite at CDC and may require travel to work with healthcare workers (HCWs) abroad. The Public Health Subject Matter expert is responsible for the effective direction, management, and operation of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) department which includes adherence to regulatory agency standards, consultation within and outside of the organization; management of outbreak investigations; and delivering IPC training to employees, medical staff, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities include: • Develop and deliver IPC Training for healthcare workers (HCWs) in countries with limited resources • Review CDC and partner documents/training for technical accuracy • Provide input on outbreak management in neonatal and adult intensive care units • Develop IPC policies, job aids, and more for use countries with limited resources • Provide IPC mentorship and guidance on quality improvement projects such as hand hygiene, waste management, surgical site infection management, etc., in hospitals in countries with limited resources • Provide IPC guidance to colleagues charged with addressing customer questions to CDC • Provide consultation and technical assistance to partners • Collaborate with colleagues and international partners to develop IPC toolkits, policies, SOPs, guidelines, etc. • Lead question and answer sessions for potential partners of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at CDC (DHQP) • Perform infection control assessments, identify practice gaps, and propose practice recommendations • Work with HCWs to prevent infection transmission as they work with patients • Support HCWs working to implement sustainable IPC programs, as well as managing outbreaks in many resource-limited countries

Qualifications: Required: • U.S. citizenship • 5 years public health experience with emphasis on Infection Prevention and Control • Knowledge of infectious diseases and expertise in processes to prevent transmission • Experience as an Infection Prevention Control (IPC) practitioner • Ability to work independently • Ability to communicate effectively with epidemiologists, physicians, clinicians, data analysts and statisticians • Skilled in consultation, teaching, project management, data analysis, interpretation and implementation of best practices to achieve positive patient outcomes • Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines to achieve patient and facility center goals to reduce risks of healthcare-associated infections • Possession of specialized knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, cleaning/ disinfection/sterilization practices, vaccines, statistics, and regulatory requirements for acute and ambulatory care facilities

Desired: • 15 years public health experience with emphasis on Infection Prevention and Control • Ability and willingness to travel internationally • Experience as a Nurse working in acute care facilities a plus • CIC® certification from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) • Experience working with CDC
