Position Description: Duties: The incumbent will serve as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and as such will be responsible for research, teaching, and administrative assignments. In coordination with other faculty members of the department, assists in planning and development of curriculum in a manner so as to integrate the student’s knowledge of basic sciences with clinical medicine; focuses on establishing translational platforms and protocols to characterize and describe deployment related disease and injury. He/she will serve as the recognized expert in biostatistics, advancing research and scholarship in the area of military- relevant epidemiologic studies. Participates in daily research work at bench level and is responsible for data review and analysis from individuals within area of responsibility.

Additional Responsibilities includes but are not limited to: Teaching new research techniques, to include use of appropriate instruments and equipment, and statistical and analytical procedures; preparing materials for presentation, providing daily supervision, and reviewing student performance; serving as an advisor to pre- doctoral and postdoctoral students in guiding their training programs; preparing and presenting lectures in the area of major expertise to the faculty and students; serves on major standing committees, and may be required to prepare staff reports.

Qualifications: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a Ph.D., in Epidemiology or a closely related field, plus substantial experience in teaching medical students and/or residents; experience with or interest in educational scholarship; expertise and experience as reflected by a significant number of scientific publications in critically reviewed scientific journals as appropriate to his/her research; and active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to area of expertise and to the Department of Medicine. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level in accordance with SoM and USUHS academic guidelines.

The following experience/knowledge is highly desirable: Familiarity with the structure and culture of military medicine, military hospitals and military internal medicine.

Relocation expenses i.e. PCS or relocation incentives as described on 5 U.S.C 5733 may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations, command policy and available command funding.
