Position Description: Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a candidate to serve as the Wisconsin Antibiotic Stewardship (AS) Coordinator. This position is a member of the Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Prevention team at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Division of Public Health, Bureau of Communicable Diseases, Communicable Diseases Epidemiology Section.

Principal duties:

The AS Coordinator will provide senior-level expertise in epidemiology and infection prevention, with proficiency in antibiotic resistance (AR), antibiotic stewardship (AS), and data for action. The expert will lead program and policy development to: - Reduce AR infections and implement AS in a variety of healthcare settings. - Provide expertise in infectious diseases, HAIs, AR, and AS core element implementation and sustainability. - Lead and oversee in the development and implementation of locally relevant public health interventions and prevention guidelines that include AS and control of Clostridioides difficile infections (CDI), carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), Candida auris, and other multidrug- resistant organisms (MDROs). - Lead the development and implementation of containment strategies for Wisconsin.

The AS Coordinator will lead the statewide AS Steering Committee with subgroups working on acute care, long-term care, outpatient, emergency medicine, the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) antimicrobial use and resistance (AUR) module implementation, and OneHealth initiatives. They will collaborate with stakeholder members of the subgroups to share activities, opportunities for collaboration, and lessons learned that advance AS across the healthcare spectrum. The AS Coordinator will lead efforts to promote Antibiotic Awareness Week messaging, including social media engagement with the public, coordination with local health departments (LHDs), and links on the DHS webpage for the core elements and "Be An Antibiotics Aware" materials.

The candidate will lead collaboration with the Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) and other partners on inpatient and outpatient AS efforts and projects. The AS coordinator will also monitor the CDC Patient Safety Atlas prescribing data in addition to statewide AR data to inform collaborative activities. Using these partnerships and data, they will identify AS project collaboration opportunities that advance AS goals to increase use of antibiograms, to better understand local resistance and prescribing patterns, and to provide patient education materials to impact outpatient AS.

Qualifications: Masters degree in public health, health policy, epidemiology, medicine, pharmacy, or other related field required. Doctoral degree or equivalent experience preferred. 3+ years of experience in applied public health, healthcare infection prevention, or infectious diseases preferred. 3+ years of experience in applied public health, healthcare infection prevention, or infectious diseases preferred.
