Position Description:

JOB TITLE:  Technical Writer/Editor (Part-time)




TRAVEL:  As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a part-time employee of ASRT, Inc., and will be assigned to the Arthritis, Epilepsy, and Well Being (AEWB) Branch, Division of Population Health (DPH), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located at 4770 Buford Highway NE, Atlanta, GA, to develop a series of CDC Epilepsy Program Success Stories.


The Technical Writer/Editor (Part-time) will draft, edit, and finalize seven two- to four-page Epilepsy Success Stories featuring impactful programmatic outcomes (e.g., successful implementation of community-based epilepsy self-management programs; epilepsy training among school nurses) using the CDC NCCDPHP Success Story guidance and templates.


  • Review Epilepsy Program Material for Success Stories, including:
    • Review scientific publications, program intervention manuals, website content and related material, and may interview key stakeholders to familiarize him/herself with the selected activity.
    • Review the CDC NCCDPHP Success Story template and guidance (see "References" section) and make recommendations for a "best-fitting" template (format) for each selected activity.
    • Draft the Success Stories based on CDC guidance for review by the Technical Monitor.  
    • Finalize the Success Stories so that they conform with the Technical Monitor's and CDC Success Story guidance.
    • Participate in at least one weekly meeting with Program staff to review, edit, and finalize drafts.



Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in public health or communication with specialized training in health communication.


  • Demonstrated knowledge of health communication principles and creating health communication products.
  • Experience interpreting scientific articles or other scientific information and putting into plain language for lay audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Prior experience working in a similar capacity at CDC or in a public health setting preferred.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English   


  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States
