Position Description: The Senior Global Health Research Specialist will lead RTI’s dSIF for research on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). This includes managing the portfolio of dSIF NTD research projects at RTI, leading some and contributing to other dSIF NTD research projects, facilitating translation of findings into scientific dissemination and programmatic action, and directly supervising junior staff. We are looking for candidates with research experience in health policy, global health system strengthening, sustainability of health programing, or political science. Experience in infectious diseases, including NTDs, is desirable.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and demanding work environment. They will need to be an excellent researcher with strong analytical and technical writing skills, be highly innovative and creative, able to mentor other staff, and have good organizational and management skills. They will need to have proven experience leading new initiatives and creating and fostering strategic relationships and networks to further scientific inquiry and develop new research opportunities.

This position will report to the Act to End NTDs | East program Technical Director. They will work closely with the Act | East program, with other the groups within GHD (including MERLA, health systems, infectious diseases, non- communicable diseases, operations, business development, and communications), and collaborate widely across other divisions at RTI. This position will require international travel and the ideal candidate will have experience across multiple geographic regions (including Africa, Asia and/or Latin America).

Qualifications: Advanced degree in Political Science, Health Systems Strengthening, sustainability of health programming, or related field; PhD preferred. Candidates must have at least 10 years of specialized experience carrying out research for global and public health and project management. Demonstrated expertise in use of cutting edge research methods within his/her discipline with proven ability and experience in data collection, management, analysis, use, visualization, reporting, interpretation and dissemination. Strong track record in publishing in peer- reviewed journals as well as use of blogs and social media to further disseminate work. Proven experience leading new initiatives and creating and fostering strategic relationships and networks to develop new research opportunities and further scientific inquiry.

Organization Description: The global health division (GHD) currently has a staff of over 400 and works in over 25 countries. GHD implements broad-based programs in infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, health systems strengthening, MERLA, and non-communicable diseases.
