Position Description: The Infection Prevention and Response Medical Director provides medical leadership and clinical expertise on infectious diseases that affect healthcare and non-healthcare congregate settings, including but not limited to emerging infections, COVID-19, influenza, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), Clostridioides difficile (C. Diff) and other diseases of public health significance.

In coordination with the Outbreak Prevention and Response Managers, the medical director is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining operational policies and procedures for outbreak prevention and response and acts a clinical liaison between local health jurisdictions (LHJs), healthcare, community, and academic stakeholders.

As an epidemiological expert, this position provides high-level technical expertise on public health policies and public health hazards. It provides medical epidemiology consultation and expertise on communicable disease surveillance, detection, control, prevention, healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistance and stewardship, and public health emergency preparedness and response to the Office of Communicable Disease Epidemiology (OCDE), other DOH programs, LHJ, and other local, state, federal agencies and public health partners.

This position supervises a major epidemiological section of the OCDE Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) & Antimicrobial Resistance Section comprised of nurse consultants, health service consultants, and other clinical HAI staff. This position is also a co-chair of the HAI Advisory Committee and works closely with the State Epidemiologist for Communicable Diseases.

This recruitment is for a full-time project Public Health & Epidemiologist 4 position within the Division on Disease Control and Health Statistics (DCHS), OCDE. This project position is currently funded through October 31, 2022.

The OCDE is responsible for statewide surveillance and investigation of more than 60 of Washington State's approximately 80 notifiable conditions, including planning and response for public health emergencies involving communicable diseases.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and completion of at least one (1) year of postgraduate training.

• A Master's degree in epidemiology or a Master's degree in public health including 12 graduate quarter hours (500 level or above) in epidemiology and 12 graduate quarter hours in biostatistics.

• Eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Washington and licensed within one (1) year of appointment.

• Three (3) or more years of experience working in a public health-related leadership position, within an administrative, supervisory, teaching, or consultant capacity.

• Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience involving clinical and epidemiology staff.

• Demonstrated experience conducting bio-statistical analysis and working with complex databases.

• Demonstrated experience conducting healthcare associated infections-related epidemiology investigations.
