Overview

Tanaq Support Services (TSS) delivers professional, scientific, and technical services and information technology (IT) solutions to federal agencies in health, agriculture, technology, and other government services. TSS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders. About the Role

The Health Scientist / Communications (Public Health Genomics - Cancer) will work collaboratively with members of the Epidemiology and Applied Research Branch (EARB), Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC) within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide high-quality technical assistance and research and programmatic support related to cancer genomics.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, translate, and disseminate public health cancer genomics work products, messages, and materials.
  • Provide technical assistance to ongoing cancer genomics activities, programs, and research.
  • Perform literature reviews.
  • Plan, organize, develop, manage, administer, and evaluate the impact of ongoing cancer genomics projects and their components.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data for reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Prepare slides, briefing materials, talking points, and presentations for public health presentations and meetings.
  • Plan and organize meetings, webinars, and conference calls with grantees, EARB staff, DCPC staff, and national partners.
  • Work with EARB staff to develop a dissemination plan to identify, prioritize, and execute findings from ongoing and planned cancer genomics efforts.
  • Support in the review and preparation of cancer genomics success stories and fact sheets for various communications products and resource dissemination points.
  • Develop cancer genomics resources, tools, products, and users guides for grantees.
  • Work collaboratively with EARB research staff, subject matter experts, and other CDC staff. 
  • Regularly report status to the designated Branch leadership, subject matter experts, and designated DCPC leadership. 

Qualifications:

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 3+ years of related work experience in cancer prevention and control, public health, and/or cancer genomics.
  • Understanding of public health communication and experience writing in plain language.
  • Ability to synthesize complex program information and effectively communicate information in written and oral format to various audiences.
  • Experience performing literature reviews.
  • Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data for reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and providing technical assistance.
  • Skill in managing, planning, organizing, and directing complex processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to efficiently manage and respond to multiple requests and priorities.
  • Previous experience working at CDC preferred.
  • Ability to obtain government clearance.

Education and Training

  • Master's degree in Public Health or applicable field is required.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift 25 pounds occasionally.
