Position Description: |
Overview Tanaq Management Services (TMS) delivers professional, scientific, and technical services and information technology (IT) solutions to federal agencies in health, agriculture, technology, and other government services. TMS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders. About the Role We seek a Health Communication Specialist (Internal Communication) to support NCIPC at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Health Communication Specialist will create and contribute to NCIPC internal communications products and events. The person in this role will also provide support in a wide range of activities that span from strategic communication planning, research, internal communication management, and more. Responsibilities Contribute to the development of the NCIPC internal strategic communication plan - Address findings from assessments of internal communications to enhance effectiveness.
- Implement both top-down and bottom-up communication mechanisms.
- Focus on facilitating cross-division communication within the organization.
Research best practices for business communication and employee engagement - Provide leadership with a summary of findings.
- Make recommendations for internal communication strategies and products based on research.
- Implement these recommendations as requested.
Routine Internal Communication Activities - Compose center-wide email communications on various topics.
- Format and edit weekly updates for distribution.
- Draft additional email communications as needed.
- Develop materials for All Hands meetings, including talking points and PowerPoint presentations.
Training announcements - Draft consolidated training announcements.
Digital signage - Manage the cross-center system.
- Coordinate daily content.
- Develop a standard operating procedure for clearance of content.
- Provide training to content developers as needed.
- Act as a liaison to division and office liaisons.
Intranet web pages - Maintain organizational charts.
- Develop and maintain content for organizational web pages.
- Serve as a liaison to divisions as needed.
Assistance with other routine functions - Develop internal memos and communications as required.
- Manage emerging and new communication channels as needed.
Internal Communication Evaluation - Conduct evaluation of internal communication activities on an annual basis or as requested.
- Conduct ad hoc evaluations of specific activities as needed.
Meeting Management - Coordinate All Hands meetings for the Office of Communication, including agenda development.
- Coordinate communication leadership meetings including agenda development.

Qualifications: |
Required Experience and Skills - Minimum 3-4 years of experience writing, reviewing, and editing health communication materials.
- Ability to synthesize complex program information and effectively communicate information in written and oral format to various audiences. Experience writing in plain language.
- Proficient in MS Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong written and oral communications/customer service skills.
- Experience developing social media strategies and messaging.
- Ability to take initiative.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work across groups and with multiple stakeholders.
- Knowledge of web and social marketing practices.
- Knowledge of public health.
- Knowledge of interpersonal relations as applicable to communication activities and initiatives.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are strongly desired.
- Superior multi-tasking and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize assignments, while remaining flexible to changing priorities and new initiatives.
- Previous CDC and/or public health experience is highly desirable.
- Previous Internal Communication experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain government clearance.
Education and Training - Master’s degree in public health or health-related strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications (journalism, advertising, public relations); or English (writing/editing) with strong evidence of clinical or public health focus may be considered.
Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift 25 pounds occasionally.
