Position Description: The Grassroots and Communications Project Manager – APHA will work on two key efforts involving advocacy and working with partners at the community level. The individual will help to lead APHA’s work with a collaborative effort to prevent challenges to public health authority at the state level. Additionally, the position will be assigned part-time to the Alliance for Disease Prevention and Response. The individual will coordinate efforts of the two initiatives with relevant APHA staff and departments, Affiliates, and members. For the authority project they will also serve as the primary liaison to grant- funded and other external efforts to build support for this work (e.g., efforts to coordinate national discussions on this topic, advocacy efforts by federal or state partners, etc.). The position is grant funded and guaranteed for one year with a likely extension based on funding and performance. The Grassroots and Communications Project Manager will be responsible for the following: -Working with partners to support efforts to address state challenges to public health authority. -Supporting efforts of the Alliance for Disease Prevention and Response to bring together partners to end the pandemic and then develop a resilient, equitable public health system – especially engaging communities and non-traditional partners. -Organizing and coordinating state activities (webinars, meetings) or Alliance activities around advancing equity and/or community engagement. -Review resources and materials from partners for PH and from states for advocacy and authority issues and consistent messaging. -Assist with management of subgrants to APHA state affiliate to work on these issues around public health authority and related activities. -Assist with management of subgrants to APHA state affiliate to work on these issues around public health authority and related activities. -Serve as resource and link to APHA resources and staff for challenges to authority issues. -Develop resources, trainings, materials for dissemination. -Periodic travel to sites and conferences (when travel is safe and possible). -Perform other duties as assigned.

The position is grant funded and guaranteed for one year with a likely extension based on funding and performance.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Four to seven years of work experience at the professional level. Previous experience with working with coalitions, preferably on campaigns, and providing project management. Knowledge of grassroots campaigns and communications. Ability to work well with a wide range of partners and individuals and to tailor messaging and approach for various audiences. Strong oral and written communications skills; an understanding of social media and digital marketing and communications (preferred). Ability to communicate effectively with diverse and different populations and partners and to employ cultural competency. Ability to multi-task and to work in dynamic environment. Detail oriented, proactive, and excellent organizational, planning and follow-up skills. Experience in effectively managing time-sensitive demands, budgets, and/or reporting to funders with limited direct supervision. Strong written and oral communication skills. Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
