Position Description: Join Maine CDC’s team of environmental toxicologists and epidemiologists and serve the people of Maine as a key player in Maine’s efforts to understand and respond to the emerging class of contaminants called per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Our team is involved in studies of the uptake of PFAS from soil into crops and crops into livestock. We are studying water related exposure pathways for home gardening and raising of farm animals and the uptake and accumulation of PFAS in fish. We are also assisting with a study of human serum levels of PFAS and their relationship to water exposures. We are the primary state agency for the development of new screening levels and action levels for PFAS in various environmental media. As an environmental epidemiologist, you will be responsible for assisting with the design, conduct, and analysis of such studies and assisting with the preparation of reports and scientific publications. In this job, you will become an expert on the epidemiology literature on PFAS and assist with the development of screening levels, action levels, and standards increasingly based on epidemiological data. You will be joining a team that has become a leader in investigating novel agronomic exposure pathways. As with other Maine CDC staff, you will also be cross-trained in methods of COVID-19 case investigation and be available for temporary deployments as Agency surge capacity.

Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:A Masters Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or a Bachelors Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two (2) years professional experience in epidemiology. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Organization Description: Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is the State of Maine public health agency. The position will be within the Environmental and Occupational Health Program that includes the Environmental Toxicology, Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention, and Environmental Health Tracking Units.
