Position Description: This position is located in the Vital Statistics Administration within the Division of Health Statistics. This position will evaluate, prepare and disseminate vital statistics data for usage by health department personnel, policymakers, researchers, and the general public. This position will also analyze, investigate and interpret epidemiological and vital statistics data in order to determine any changes in trends.

Additionally, this position will recommend and prepare reports which describe the nature of problems identified from analyzing vital statistics data. Finally, this position will recommend investigations or special studies which are indicated from analysis of vital statistics data.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: Three years of experience as an Epidemiologist, after receipt of the Master’s degree.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics, for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Health Care Science classifications, or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The desired candidate should have experience using the SAS software to manipulate and perform statistical analysis of health data. He/she should also have experience using the ArcGIS software to map health data.

The desired candidate should have a Dr.P.H. or Ph.D. in the field of Public Health.
