Position Description: Apply behavioral and social science theories, methods, and techniques. Assess risk and protective factors for health outcomes in the social and physical environment. Design and conduct studies and research using behavioral science techniques. Translate and disseminate behavioral science research.

Qualifications: Preferred qualifications and skills: • A degree in behavioral science or related social science field and epidemiologic experience • Experience in range of behavioral science methodologies including program evaluation, needs assessment, behavioral assessments, message testing, health communication and social marketing • Expertise in qualitative research including designing qualitative studies, qualitative data analyses, and research dissemination and translation • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, behavioral and social science theories to a range of activities • Experience in behavioral and social epidemiology, quantitative data analyses, and research translation • Background in coordinating and managing research projects • Ability to design quantitative and qualitative research tools, experience in quantitative and qualitative primary data collection, practice in working with qualitative and quantitative data • Strong oral and written communication abilities • Outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills • Ability to collaborate with a wide range of internal and external partners • Ability to identify information gaps/needs and opportunities • Attention to detail

Organization Description: The Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch is CDC’s lead group for responding to multistate outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness linked to food and animal contact. The mission of CDC’s Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch (ORPB) is to:

- Efficiently triage, investigate, and solve multistate foodborne and zoonotic outbreaks - Take timely action to prevent illnesses through effective risk communication and outreach - Leverage outbreak data to drive overall prevention of foodborne and zoonotic disease
