We are seeking an Epidemiologist to implement response projects that impact public health decision making through the integration of surveillance data for domestic and global research response activities. We strive to build outbreak science capabilities with a focus on diverse perspectives and end-user requirements to provide trusted analytics and real-world application. You’ll join a dedicated team of interdisciplinary scientists in the Applied Biology Group to drive technical innovation and offer end-to- end solutions to tackle our Nation’s most important security and health challenges.

In this role, you will contribute traditional and groundbreaking approaches to characterize transmission dynamics, quantify the effects of interventions and behavior, and develop new methods to anticipate future pathogen trajectories. Your direct interaction with end users will ensure capabilities are relevant, timely, and impactful.

As an Epidemiologist you will: Perform and lead epidemiological forecasting and modeling research and development Apply and develop innovative epidemiological methods with datasets of varying size and granularity to understand pathogen transmission and public health interventions Establish and maintain collaborative research with academic institutions, US government partners, and other public health scientists to facilitate sustainable partnerships Provide forward-leaning technical vision to support new business development activities and expand the scope of the disease forecasting and modeling programs within the Asymmetric Operations Sector, National Health, and other relevant business areas across the entirety of APL. Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the Department, Laboratory, and with external sponsors.

Qualifications: You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you…

Have a Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Medicine, or a related public health field. Specialize in data analysis, applied epidemiology, or a similar field with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience that includes public health surveillance activities. Possess a strong leadership proficiency including excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through a combination of publication record, teaching, and professional experience. Have experience with multiple programming languages (R, Python, JavaScript, etc.) and analytical packages commonly used in epidemiology. Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Security clearance eligibility requires you to be a U.S. citizen. Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
