Position Description: Purpose of Position The successful candidate will serve in the classification of a Health Educator-A in the role of a Violence & Injury Prevention Specialist for the New Mexico Department of Health. The candidate, in collaboration with violence & injury prevention coordinators and epidemiologists, will work to strengthen networks and develop resources for effective and long-term prevention programs in New Mexico; consistent with state and national best practices for evidence-based prevention. Health educators work closely with nonprofit organizations to help them get the resources they need, such as funding through state procurement policies and procedures. The chosen candidate will be responsible for a major segment of statewide public health education/promotion programs in prevention of violence & injury. The incumbent will use data to identify community needs and to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments which contribute to reduction in violence & injury death rates. The employee will disseminate public health education materials to healthcare professionals and community organizations that provide violence & injury prevention and intervention services about shared risk and protective factors associated with prevention of violence & injury. The position will administer fiscal resources for health education programs, and prepare the budget related to the program(s) and assist in the preparation of grant applications The incumbent will be a member of the office of injury prevention team, will participate as an active part of the team and will provide support to office initiatives such as meetings of the NM Injury Prevention Coalition. Excellent oral and written communication skills; Flexibility, team player; Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment and be responsive to multiple priorities and deadlines that meet state and federal regulations; Ability to think critically; Ability to understand and manage a sensitive and highly confidential program area; Experience and coursework in public health; Ability to apply for and manage federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grants; Experience in clinical and/or hospital setting working with electronic medical records and/or patient charts.

No substitutions apply for semester hours.

Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.

The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.
