Position Description: The Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) and Antimicrobial Resistance Program within the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) division of the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is accepting applications for one (1) full time Epidemiologist. We are seeking to fill an Epidemiologist 2 position.

This position is permanent and funded from year to year through CDC cooperative agreements (grants). Some in-state and out of state travel is required. Job duties will include:

• Using SAS, extracting, cleaning, managing, analyzing, and visualizing antibiotic use and/or resistance data from the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Antibiotic Use and Resistance (AUR) Module and the TDH Antibiotic Use Point Prevalence Survey. • Extracting, cleaning, managing, and analyzing antibiotic use data from outpatient IQVIA Xponent and Longitudinal Rx/Diagnostic claim databases. • Monitoring collection, data quality, and analysis of antimicrobial use and susceptibility data from laboratories and healthcare facilities across the state, including the use the NHSN AUR module. • Developing and maintaining Tableau and/or other visualization dashboards on antibiotic use and antibiotic stewardship. • Participating in data collection, entry, cleaning, and analysis for HAI, MDRO, and antimicrobial stewardship projects. • Assisting in the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, scientific articles and presentations, and other deliverables. • Coordinating the TDH CMS Data Linkage project and collaborating with other HAI team members on various data linkage projects. • Participating in HAI and MDRO outbreak investigations as needed. • Conduct direct supervision of a medium-sized team consisting of up to 4 team members, including multiple Epidemiologists 1

Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in epidemiology.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in; medicine (MD), osteopathic medicine (DO), veterinarian medicine (DVM), public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics health sciences, biomedical sciences or environmental sciences with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in public health or an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics with experience equivalent to four year's work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional studies with an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in health science, biomedical science or environmental science with experience equivalent to six year's work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional studies with an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years’ experience.

Desired Qualifications: • Communicable disease surveillance experience at a local or state public health department. • Experience writing statistical and analytical programming code in SAS. • Experience in developing and maintaining Tableau dashboards. • Experience in reviewing and abstracting medical records. • Experience in infection control or quality improvement activities. • Experience in research (submitting IRBs, coordinating the project, quality assurance/data validation activities, creating surveys or case report forms, etc.). • Experience supervising small – medium sized teams, including Epidemiologist supervision.

Organization Description: The position is with the Tennessee Department of Health, Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness program in Nashville, Tennessee. The HAI team at the TDH is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, data-driven team that works very closely with external partners such as the CDC, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Prevention, the Tennessee Hospital Association, the Tennessee Center for Patient Safety, Alliant Health, Qsource, the Tennessee Pharmacists Association, End Stage Renal Disease Network 8, the Tennessee Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, and the Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care.

Additional Information: The Epidemiologist 2 is a full-time preferred service position. Minimum salary is $5756 monthly depending on education and experience, with a standard benefits package. No relocation assistance is available. The Epidemiologist 2 will have formal supervisory responsibilities.
