Position Description: |
Epidemiologist II performs advanced (senior- level) epidemiological work in the Office of Injury Prevention. Work is performed under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Reports to EMS (Emergency Medical Services) and Trauma Registries Manager. Initiates, plans, develops, oversees routine and incident- specific morbidity and mortality surveillance of injuries, diseases and other health conditions.
Essential Job Functions: Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
(40%) Initiates, plans, develops, oversees routine and incident-specific morbidity and mortality surveillance of injuries, diseases and other health conditions. Analyzes EMS and Trauma data and fulfills data requests from internal and external stakeholders.
(30%) Helps maintain epidemiological data collection operations and provides quality control for data management of surveillance systems that can identify health problems, threats, and environmental hazards.
(15%) Reports the results of epidemiological investigations to various professional, state, and national organizations. Creates reports and PowerPoint presentations to share results.
(10%) Proposes and initiates injury epidemiological projects, including design specification and analysis, and presents project results.
(5%) Participates in cross-functional training within DSHS. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Qualifications: |
Knowledge of the principles and methods of epidemiology and related biostatistics; adverse reproductive outcomes, injuries, confounding, using ICD-10CM and ICD-9CM codes, data cleaning and preparation.
Skilled in being able to analyze large datasets, advanced abilities within statistical programming such as (SAS, SPSS, R, SQL), merge datasets
Ability to plan, conduct, and report on epidemiological investigations
Ability to communicate effectively to different audiences
Ability make recommendations for program improvement and direction
Ability to work independently
Ability give presentations
