Position Description: The Department of Health, Communicable Disease Service has an opportunity for an Epidemiologist with the necessary education, training, and experience to assess, quantify, and report on infection prevention and control capacity in New Jersey. This position is a member of a Infection Control Healthcare and Environmental Epidemiology (ICHEE) Section with a home base in Trenton at the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH). Periodic travel throughout the state will be required with an expectation of 20% time spent working in the field. The Epidemiologist will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and summarizing communicable disease information as well as infection control capacity. Duties of the Epidemiologist include developing collaborative relationships with health professionals at the local, state, and federal level regarding issues related to HAI/AR and infection prevention and control. The Epidemiologist will be responsible for leading the collection, organization, and presentation of data focused on communicable disease surveillance and infection prevention capacity at the individual facility and state-level, and will assist in the education of public health partners, primary healthcare providers, public health officials and the general public regarding healthcare facility preparedness for the prevention of emerging infectious pathogens and improvement of infection control practices. This position will be responsible for performing descriptive analyses, writing reports, developing tools (e.g., questionnaires, worksheets, line lists), application of analytical methods, data management, and provision of guidance to facilities and local health departments on infection control capacity. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience in applied epidemiology, strong interpersonal skills, and experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team. Proficiency in statistical analysis programs (e.g., SAS, Excel, Access) and experience with communicable disease investigations preferred.

Qualifications: EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of full-time experience in a field appropriate to the position. NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above. LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a valid driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
