| Position Description: |
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is seeking an outstanding Health Statistician to work in its Division of Analysis and Epidemiology (DAE). This position is within DAE’s Population Health Reporting and Dissemination Branch (PHRDB), which monitors trends in the nation’s health by conducting cross-cutting health research using data from federal and non-federal sources. A primary role of PHRDB is to coordinate the production of Health, United States, a congressionally mandated annual report on the health of the nation for the President of the United States and Congress. This position’s key responsibility is to support the modernization of Health, United States in a highly collaborative environment. This position requires data literacy, as well as experience with data manipulation, processing, and management as well as data visualization and reporting.
This position is open to all citizens of the United States. This position has been posted as part of the CDC Direct Hire authority and will be used to fill positions in multiple NCHS Divisions.
Duties: • Investigates multiple health topics, including conducting literature reviews and summarizing background • Plans and conducts high-quality research for inclusion in Health, United States and other products by selecting appropriate data sources and valid statistical methods • Develop detailed specifications for programmers to create statistical estimates and analyses of comparisons or trends • Designs charts and other visualizations to quickly and clearly communicate research findings • Critically reviews documentation from NCHS and non-NCHS data sources, and includes relevant characteristics in report documentation • Conducts careful quality assurance reviews of Health, United States materials and other products • Communicates data findings to a variety of audiences, including the general public, NCHS senior staff, and conference attendees • Learns and applies the latest statistical methods and approaches
