Position Description: The VA Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention invites applications for several anticipated Researcher positions within its highly productive Research Division. The Center includes an interdisciplinary group of scientists conducting high quality health services research focused on the prevention of veteran suicide. We are specifically seeking mid- to senior-career scientists with an established funding history in areas relevant to Center priorities (suicide prevention) with a background in public or population health, epidemiology, health services, health communication, health economics, community-based participatory research or implementation science. Primary duties include establishing and maintaining an active, funded and independent VA research program. Mentorship activities are negotiable. The Center also has a growing interest in diversity and health disparities research related to veteran suicide. This type of position is ideal for (but not limited to) university faculty seeking dual research appointments with the VA. Intramural funding opportunities are uniquely available within VA. Part-time research appointments will be considered. The Center of Excellence is located in Canandaigua, NY but this is a virtual position that can be located anywhere within the U.S. Benefits packages are available to eligible candidates. U.S. citizenship is a requirement of employment with the VA.

Organization Description: The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) established the Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention (CoE) in August 2007 with the overarching mission to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with Veteran suicide. Since its inception, the CoE has been guided by a public health approach to suicide prevention. Consistent with this framework, the Center’s robust research program is designed to inform the development and use of evidence-based prevention strategies across broad categories of risk (universal, selective, indicated) for use with Veteran populations. The CoE is currently comprised of an interdisciplinary research team representing the diverse fields of public health, psychology, psychiatry, epidemiology, health communication, health services, economics, sociology, nursing and social work. There are more than 50 staff members employed by the CoE.
