| Position Description: |
The purpose of this classification is to care for patients in the Travel and Immunization Clinic.
The Public Health Nurse is responsible for the following essential functions:
• Assesses immunization status and administers immunizations to children and adults per PHN Protocol. • Administers immunizations and counsels international travelers per PHN Protocol. Regularly reviews CDC international travel guidance and provides up to date information. • Maintains annual required immunization training and participates in ongoing continuing education related to vaccines. • Records information appropriately in EHR. • Schedules travel appointments as necessary. • Distributes and explains vaccine information sheets and other patient education materials. • Collects blood as required for newborn screenings, sends specimen to laboratory for analysis and prepares necessary laboratory forms or requisitions. • Participates in off-site immunization clinics, makes visits to patients’ home when needed, and may be required to maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License depending on work assignment. • Serves as a clinical resource to medical professionals and patients regarding immunizations, international travel destinations and newborn screenings. • Maintains knowledge of legal limitations, scope of practice, while performing job functions. • Attends in-service trainings, mandatory bi-annual CPR recertification and regular staff meetings. • Participates in continuing education programs. • Responds to medical emergencies per KCHD protocol.
• Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional, or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office. • Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours • Perform other duties as required.

| Qualifications: |
• Associates degree in Nursing, or related with two years of previous medical facility experience • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position • Must maintain state of Tennessee licensure/certification requirements in nursing and advanced pharmacology • Must be a Registered Nurse and have completed a two-week comprehensive training in immunizations by Travel and Immunizations Clinic personnel. • Preferred, but not required, experience in electronic health records (EHR)
