Position Description: |
Are you passionate about improving the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents? The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is seeking a dedicated individual to manage, coordinate, and develop mental health and suicide prevention initiatives. Reporting to the Manager, Suicide Prevention, your mission will be to engage internal and external stakeholders in education, communication, and partnership efforts to improve care for children and adolescents; manage program implementation, tracking, and achievement of funder goals and objectives; develop and coordinate workplans and communication with external partners; monitor program budgets and prepare reports in accordance with funder requirements; collaborate in the development and drafting of grant proposals and applications.
This position is funded through contributions from Kenvue, a consumer health company known for the AVEENO®, BAND-AID®, LISTERINE®, NEUTROGENA®, TYLENOL® brands. This position has a project period through August 2024 and is eligible to enroll in AAP's comprehensive benefits package.
Some tasks include:
1. Provide staff support for the development and implementation of assigned programs, working closely with supervisor, other program staff, and relevant advisory groups and partner organizations. 2. Develop, implement, and update program workplans and project-tracking mechanisms. 3. Manage the design, development, implementation, dissemination, and evaluation of resources and tools designed to help clinicians and communities advance suicide prevention and mental health initiatives. 4. Execute the development, review, and implementation of program materials, technical assistance programs, and promotional materials and implement applicable communications plans and awareness-building activities. 5. Work with relevant AAP staff to design and launch web-content for assigned programs on AAP websites. 6. Work with subject matter experts, national public health partners, external consultants, and other key partners to advise the development and execution of program deliverables. 7. Manage the process of applying for and securing continuing medical education, maintenance of certification, or other relevant credits for participants as appropriate. 8. Monitor progress on all program deliverables and provide regular reports to supervisor, internal stakeholders, and funder as required. 9. Monitor project operating budget, including monthly financial meetings with supervisor and other AAP staff. Make recommendations on needed budgetary and/or programmatic adjustments to supervisor. 10. Prepare and oversee implementation of consulting agreements, contracts, and invoices as assigned. 11. Respond to inquiries and correspondence from program collaborators, AAP fellows, other health professionals, governmental agencies, national medical/health organizations, educational institutions, and other organizations as related to project activities. 12. Support acquisition of additional funding where needed to support AAP activities and programs in assigned content area(s). Partner with supervisor and AAP Development staff to identify and engage potential funders, monitor federal funding opportunities, and manage the development of grant proposals, taking a leadership role in writing proposal content.

Qualifications: |
Qualifications needed: 1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, health policy, health education, health communication or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required. 2. At least two years’ related experience in public health program coordination/management required, including budget management and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders, preferably in a medical association, state public health agency, or national advocacy organization. Experience in health education, healthcare quality improvement, developing educational materials/resources, online education, program evaluation, mental health initiatives highly desirable. Experience in grants writing/management preferred. 3. Excellent organizational, project management, interpersonal, diplomacy, and verbal/written communication skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with web maintenance/document collaboration platforms (eg, SharePoint), virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams), and digital applications (apps) preferred. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work both independently and as part of a team, take initiative, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team- oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Some travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability.
Hybrid working arrangement of 40% on-site at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL.
