Position Description: We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Working Title to join our team. As a key member of our communications team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the effective communication of our organization’s mission, values, and initiatives.

As a Communications Consultant (CC3) you will report to the Communications Manager and work in a professional, collaborative manner with other staff, leadership, and Board/Council members.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Public Meeting Production Coordination: Transporting, setting up, and taking down of audio-visual equipment for Board and Council meetings. Proof-reading and editing meeting materials to meet deadlines. Posting all public meeting materials on the Board and Council websites. Assisting with virtual, hybrid, and in-person meeting facilitation, including anticipating and helping resolve possible technical difficulties for meeting participants. External and Digital Communications: Writing, editing, and reviewing content for Board and Council websites and social media channels, using proper grammar, punctuation, and Plain Talk standards. Analyzing website and social media metrics by conducting regular reviews of Board and Council digital communication platforms. Ensuring all Board and Council communications are equitable, inclusive, and meet ADA and accessibility requirements. Media Public Relations: Identifying, collecting, and distributing media clips regarding or related to Board and Council work. Working with DOH colleagues to maintain relevant media and reporter distribution lists. Record Retention and Responses: Participating in public records request responses, including drafting response letters, and gathering and preparing responsive documents. Providing support to the records custodian, including archiving records consistent with records retention schedule.

Qualifications: Option 1: Five (5) or more years of experience in communications, journalism, or public relations WHICH INCLUDES writing/editing experience.

Option 2: A bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Health Promotion, Public Relations, or related field; AND three (3) or more years of writing/editing experience (or equivalent education/experience). Experience may be gained concurrently.

AND (for BOTH of the above options) the following:

Two (2) or more years of professional experience in the following: Working with social media for a public, private, or non-profit organization. Working with websites for a public, private, or non-profit organization. Experience producing materials and delivering information that are accessible to a wide variety of audiences, including checking for ADA compliance.

Organization Description: The State Board of Health’s mission is to provide statewide leadership in advancing policies that protect and improve the public’s health. The Board achieves this mission by monitoring the public’s health to understand and prevent disease across the state; serving as a public forum to engage the public in policy development; and adopting foundational public health rules that prevent disease, promote public health and keep people safe. The Board makes recommendations to the Governor and Legislature and completes health impact reviews in collaboration with the Governor’s Interagency Council on Health Disparities (RCW 43.20.285). A health impact review is an evidence-based, non-partisan, objective analysis of how a proposed legislative or budgetary change may impact health and equity. Only the Governor or a member of the Legislature may request a health impact review. Health impact reviews are unique to the Board and Council – no other agency completes them.
