Organization Description: The Executive Office of Prevention, Safety and Health, within the division of Health Systems Quality Assurance (HSQA), is responsible for the oversight of Washington State’s health care delivery system which includes licensing and regulating over 470,000 health care professionals and 12,000 facilities. The Health Systems Quality Assurance (HSQA) division of DOH works to assure access to safe, quality health care through regulation. Our role is to establish standards for patient safety, ensure providers meet these standards, and evolve the standards to support emerging needs in the health care delivery system.

Each credentialing application is unique to the profession, with many requiring input and buy-in from external stakeholders (boards and commissions), making the work of this project complex. The project is politically sensitive with many external stakeholders sharing an interest in its success. Improving credentialing timeframes means more providers in Washington’s healthcare system to provide safe patient care for the 7.7 million residents of our state.
