Position Description: Main Purpose Of Job The mission of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) is to promote and improve the health and well-being of women, children, and families, to eliminate inequities, and improve outcomes in Maryland. The Maryland School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Program contributes to this effort by bringing high quality preventive, primary, and acute care services in the location that children spend a majority of their time. School-based health centers play a critical role in increasing access to health services for students in Maryland schools, especially in underserved communities, and are known to improve both the health and educational outcomes of students. This position will provide epidemiologic support to the SBHC Program and other initiatives within the MCHB.

The SBHC program supports 89 SBHCs across Maryland by administering grants, providing technical assistance and capturing impact through collection of performance measures and retrospective data. The program seeks to develop new processes for collecting and analyzing data through health information exchange platforms, electronic health records, medicaid claims data, and increase capacity for measuring educational outcomes. To achieve this, the role will be responsible for the collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization of health and administrative data to optimize program performance and outcomes for Maryland’s 19,000 youth served by a SBHC.

This position will be fully integrated in the SBHC Program and will report to the SBHC Program Manager, however the position will also receive support from the MCHB Epidemiology team and have opportunities to support their overall work of the Bureau.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist after receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred candidates should possess:

Experience with platforms such as SAS, GIS mapping, Tableau, Redcap and/or Power BI; and, Experience analyzing health information records and/or claims data.
