Position Description: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking a collaborative public health professional to manage and implement programs and activities related to maternal and child health topic areas, such as breastfeeding, oral health, and more. In addition, this role will guide activities related to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support (CSTLTS)-funded cooperative agreement and support capacity building on public health topics.

Reporting to the Director, Primary Care and Workforce, some tasks include: 1. Provide primary staff support to the Section on Oral Health (SOOH), Section on Breastfeeding (SOBr), and related subcommittees, including agenda development, meeting planning and attendance, and development of minutes. Ensure work is completed in accordance with AAP policies. 2. Oversee educational activities of the SOBr and SOOH, such as the identification and implementation of educational programming topics, newsletters, and development of articles for AAP News or other publications. 3. Ensure timely completion of assigned activities for federal and private foundation grants, including preparation of required progress reports and reporting materials. 4. Develop and monitor assigned budgets. Prepare required financial reports. 5. Assist in the education of AAP members and others about breastfeeding, oral health, and other maternal and child health topics through the development and dissemination of resources that promote collaborative activities between pediatricians, other health care professionals, and public health service providers at national, state, and regional levels. 6. Develop, support, and promote a network of experts (e.g., AAP Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinators and Chapter Oral Health Advocates) willing to provide technical assistance to AAP members and other health care professionals on maternal and child health topics. 7. Oversee the maintenance of the breastfeeding, oral health, and other web pages and collaboration sites in accordance with AAP policies and identity programs. Ensure that information is up to date. 8. Collaborate with related AAP committees/councils/sections, medical specialty societies, and/or other child health organizations regarding oral health and breastfeeding, including integration in the medical home. 9. Provide technical assistance to members and others on matters pertinent to AAP policy and/or maternal and child health related project activities. 10. Collaborate with other national organizations to integrate assigned maternal and child health initiatives with related activities. 11. Attend national meetings of pertinent organizations to foster collaborative efforts and prepare critical analyses of relevant policy by external organizations and federal agencies for review by section and AAP leadership. 12. Assist with preparing funding proposals and grant applications to enhance maternal and child health initiatives, as necessary. 13. Work with department colleagues, other AAP staff, committee/council/section members, and other outside organizations to collaborate on maternal and child health activities. 14. Supervise assigned staff. Encourage a work environment that promotes inclusion and belonging of all staff. Support ongoing staff development, help set objectives, and evaluate performance, and promote and enhance staff capacity in skills necessary to achieve goals. 15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications needed: 1. Bachelor’s degree in health administration, nursing, public health, or social sciences or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience required. Master’s degree preferred. 2. At least three years’ related experience coordinating/managing public health programs, including budget management, collaborating with multiple constituents, and program implementation, preferably working with maternal and child health initiatives. Experience supervising staff or leading teams and with educational program development, needs assessment, evaluation, technical writing, grant applications/management, and web-based content development preferred. Association management experience helpful. 3. Excellent written/ verbal communication, organizational, project management, critical thinking, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with web maintenance and collaboration site software (e.g., SharePoint), budgeting software (e.g., Acumatica), and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams) preferred. Must be able to manage multiple priorities within deadlines, take initiative, collaborative effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team- oriented work environment with a commitment to diversity. Knowledge of the health care programs designed to promote child health highly desirable. Some travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability. Hybrid working arrangement of 40% on-site at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL.
