Position Description: The Specialist, Marketing and Membership will support membership, marketing and communications initiatives at the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), the organization representing state, local and territorial laboratories in the United States that are charged with protecting the public’s health.

The specialist will develop, coordinate and track marketing initiatives and campaigns to increase engagement and ROI. This position also supports an active membership program, providing excellent customer service and supporting member recruitment, engagement and retention.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Marketing:

Develop, implement and track marketing activities such as email, social media and events. Produce and execute email campaigns in Higher Logic/RealMagnet including building emails from templates and HTML, copywriting, QA and scheduling. Review and test email promotions, ensure regulatory compliance and best practice, troubleshoot and provide custom delivery solutions as needed. Review email and social media metrics, produce reports on performance, review statistics and identify improvements. Manage consistency of email lists between MC Trade and Higher Logic/RealMagnet. Identify, assess and manage digital marketing initiatives. Use tools such as Google Analytics to track engagement and provide reports on customer data. Support efforts to optimize email creation and template structure based on best practice. Support APHL exhibits strategy, coordinate exhibit needs with internal partners, work with Office Services and/or fulfillment vendor to schedule and ship materials to conferences and other meetings.

Membership:

Serve as primary backup for membership inquiries and information requests. Assist in managing the APHL member database and updating member records. Enhance list management. Review and improve membership application and other membership materials to increase awareness and engagement. Create and disseminate membership certificates. Provide support to key membership programs and events such as the APHL Awards Program and Corporate Leadership Council. Work with Awards Vetting Committee, review nominations, review application information. Support planning and execution of CLC meeting.

Qualifications: Employment Standards- Education and Experience:

BA/BS degree plus 2-5 years of coordinating and implementing marketing and/or membership activities in a deadline-driven atmosphere. Experience with or knowledge of email regulations, best practices and compliance. Experience working within an association or nonprofit membership organization is preferred. Familiarity with Google Analytics, HTML/CSS, A/B Testing and CMS platforms. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and all MS Office applications a plus but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge:

The successful candidate will have:
