Position Description:

Join the Washington State Department of Health, contributing to the transformative vision of equity and optimal health for all. As a Senior Epidemiologist in the Office of Health and Science, you'll supervise and provide strategic direction and funding oversight for the Survey Operations Team. This team oversees the administration of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), the Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) and the newly developed Child Wellness Survey. Your role involves supporting the team in coordinating population survey operations, fostering collaborations, and driving innovations in population survey design, methods, engagement and data use for impactful data-driven program and policy development.

Tasks include:

Advancing community engagement in survey planning to inform survey methods, questionnaire topics and data products. Promoting collaboration and coordination across population surveys to best meet community needs. Supporting and promoting innovative approaches to improving survey participation by underserved populations. Developing team analytic capacity to support survey sampling, weighting and analysis. Expanding use of survey data to identify key health challenges and develop actionable recommendations. Promoting development of survey communication materials that are accessible and actionable. Qualifications: Required Qualifications

Option 1: A Master's degree or higher in epidemiology, biostatistics or data science

OR

Option 2: A Master's degree or higher in public health, or a closely allied field including 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent (500 level or above) in epidemiology and 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent in biostatistics.

AND for both options must have the following:

Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a public health or equivalent setting Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience leading or managing public health and/or related programs focused on epidemiologic investigations or research, population-based survey administration, or disease surveillance. Three (3) or more years’ experience performing data analysis with statistical software and analyzing data and scientific information for planning and decision-making.
