| Position Description: |
The Research Scientist (RS) 2 will be responsible for the surveillance and epidemiologic activities related to the planning, design, and operation of the three occupational health registries and the New York Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS); Identifying methods of prevention, intervention, and exposure control by applying principles of evidence-based public health, surveillance, and biostatistics. They will also analyze data to identify surveillance and research priorities including, identifying health and risk factors, assessing exposure, and informing outreach and education initiatives. The incumbent will collaborate with senior research staff to disseminate information, including, authorship and co-authorship of fact sheets, white papers, tables, graphs, progress reports, and articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The RS is responsible for summarizing results for presentation to the scientific community, expert panel members, collaborators, and the general public; assisting senior principal investigators in preparing grant proposals; providing support to principal investigators to coordinate and achieve project objectives and develop and implement research. They will provide supervision of junior research staff as needed to accomplish tasks; contribute towards enhancing innovative research and surveillance capabilities in the Bureau; provide technical support and training to junior level research staff; and attend meetings both internally and externally relevant to the surveillance programs.

| Qualifications: |
Assistant Research Scientist (Epidemiology), Grade 14: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree and one year of post degree professional research experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
Research Scientist 1 (Epidemiology), Grade 18: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree and two years of post- degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a master's degree in one of the above fields and one year of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field.
Research Scientist 2 (Epidemiology) , Grade 22: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree and three years of post- degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a master's degree in one of the above field and two years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a doctoral degree in one of the above fields.
