Position Description: THE POSITION The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Prevention and Control Program, is currently seeking an experienced individual for the position of Epidemiologist 1 (Infectious/Chronic Diseases) (35 Hour). Build your data analysis, interpretation, and communication skills while strengthening the evidence base for interventions to reduce transmission of syphilis, HIV, and other sexually transmitted infections. As a key member of the STD Surveillance Unit, you will be trained in field investigation, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis viruses, and COVID-19. You will work with Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS), who conduct field investigations, to ensure that clients get the care they need and prevent further spread of preventable diseases throughout the state. Click here for more information. MORE ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY Collaborate with the team to strengthen the evidence base for program activities. Assist in program monitoring and evaluation processes. Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations. Provide insights to inform social marketing campaigns. Develop graphics for educational materials. Analyze and process STD data to meet reporting requirements. Monitor syphilis workflows in CTEDSS. Compile statistics and generate written reports. Conduct literature reviews. Work under the supervision of the Epidemiologist 4/STD Surveillance Coordinator. Support the STD Surveillance Unit in completing Annual Performance Reports for CDC. Interact regularly with colleagues in Tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and Viral Hepatitis programs. The STD Prevention and Control Program works to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as syphilis and HIV, by connecting people to appropriate testing and treatment services, identifying people at risk of infection, and notifying people of exposure to sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Program staff work to ensure that all Connecticut residents have equal chances for health regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, socioeconomic position, immigrant status, sexual orientation, language, disability, housing status, or geographic area of residence. The STD Prevention and Control Program is committed to employing a diverse and skilled workforce representative of the communities we serve.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Five (5) years of experience in a responsible technical or professional capacity in epidemiological investigations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree. A Master's degree in a related discipline including community medicine, public health or a related health science may be substituted for the General Experience. A Doctorate in a related discipline such as medicine, public health or a natural or behavioral science may be substituted for the General Experience. Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the General Experience.
