The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Laboratory Consultant. This position will be apart of our Facility Licensing and Investigations Section (FLIS), a part of our Healthcare Quality and Safety Branch. The Laboratory Consultant is critical to protecting the health and safety of the residents of Connecticut who require services of medical laboratory, biosafety laboratories, blood and plasma donation centers which are licensed by the Department of Public Health and federally certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Conducting on-site licensure surveys and CMS certification inspection to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations. Follow-up visits are required to ensure identified noncompliance is corrected. Investigating complaints in licensed and certified medical/biosafety laboratories, as well as blood/plasma donation centers, blood draw stations and monitoring visits in response to potential and/or identified emergencies. These can include, but are not limited to: quality of care/life concerns, environmental concerns, infectious disease and/or strike actions. Performing other and related duties for the situational needs of the department. The Facility Licensing and Investigations Section more commonly known as "FLIS" licenses, monitors, inspects and investigates complaints involving a variety of facilities and services. It performs federal certification inspections in health care facilities participating in the Medicare and/or Medicaid programs and identifies deficiencies that may affect that facility's state licensure or eligibility for federal reimbursement.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Eight (8) years of professional laboratory experience in clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, medical technology or a related area. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED College training in chemistry, medical technology, microbiology or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree. A Master's degree in chemistry, medical technology, microbiology or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
