Position Description: Job Summary: Westat has an immediate opening for a behavioral health epidemiologist to join our team in conducting research and surveillance on behavioral health and related topics, including substance use and mental health. The behavioral health epidemiologist will collaborate with investigators and internal project team members to design and implement epidemiology, data management, analysis, and dissemination activities for project deliverables, reports, and scientific peer- reviewed publications. The successful candidate will have knowledge of mental health or substance-related surveillance and experience collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

Hybrid 1-2 days per week preferred, remote work arrangement also available.

Job Responsibilities: • Support all stages of research and surveillance projects from protocol development through data collection, analysis, and reporting under the management of a project director or senior epidemiologist. • Develop data management protocols, data dictionaries, and data analysis plans. • Conduct data cleaning, harmonization, and analysis on large datasets. • Collaborate with a diverse team of statisticians, data scientists, graphic designers, and others to develop and implement new methodologies and share findings with diverse audiences. • Contribute to business development and proposal writing. • Present analytic findings to internal project teams and external client teams. • Contribute to publication in peer- reviewed and technical journals.

Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: • A Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience may be a substitute for education. • Experience with statistical software, including R.

Preferred Qualifications: • Experience conducting substance-related research or surveillance and disseminating findings to a variety of audiences. • Experience drafting statistical analysis plans and conducting analysis. • Experience collecting and analyzing data from administrative records (e.g., electronic health records).

Other Required Qualifications: • Demonstrated communication skills. • Collaboration with teams, managers and/or clients. • Organization skills, including time management ability. • Detail oriented.
