The Governor’s Interagency Council on Health Disparities (Council) is seeking a visionary Social Epidemiologist (Epidemiologist 2 Non- Medical) to join our team in advancing health equity and justice across Washington state.

As the Council’s Social Epidemiologist (Epi 2 Non-Medical), you will play a pivotal role in designing and conducting research, epidemiological analyses, and evaluations to inform our decision-making process. Your work will be instrumental in helping us understand how social and policy determinants intersect to impact the health of communities who are marginalized, guiding the development of innovative policy strategies.

Responsibilities Include:

Supervise the Council’s Health Policy Analyst. Design and conduct innovative research and epidemiological analyses on topics of statewide significance, including complex and controversial issues. Analyze associations between social/policy factors and health outcomes, incorporating approaches that examine intersecting inequities. Collaborate with diverse partners, including community-based organizations, government agencies, Tribal organizations, and academic institutions. Facilitate interagency collaboration and policy innovation to eliminate inequities and advance health justice. Prepare and disseminate clear, accurate, and accessible reports, presentations, and visual products to communicate research findings to various audiences.

We're thrilled to announce an enticing full- time permanent position for an Epidemiologist 2 (Non-Medical) to join our dynamic team. This home-based opportunity allows you to work from anywhere within the breathtaking boundaries of Washington State, with some travel required to the Tumwater campus or other locations in Washington for Council meetings, team meetings, and other functions.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, public policy, or a closely allied field.

Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.

Experience with and an understanding of the social/structural determinants of health, including how racism and other systems of oppression impact health and well-being, which may be gained through experience working with diverse communities. Experience working with or major coursework in biostatistics, including experience with statistical software and/or analyzing and interpreting quantitative datasets. Experience applying qualitative and quantitative research methods. Verbal and written communication skills, including experience translating complex and technical subject matter into information understandable for a broad range of audiences. Experience in the following: Building partnerships and working collaboratively with people, including facilitating meetings and presenting technical information. (This position will need to facilitate council/subcommittee meetings and present information in a variety of settings.) Experience organizing and prioritizing multiple assignments, sometimes of a complex nature or involving competing priorities, to produce work products that are accurate, thorough, and on time.

Organization Description: About the Council

The mission of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Health Disparities (Council) is to develop statewide policy recommendations to eliminate health inequities by race/ethnicity and gender. The Council was established through legislation in 2006 (RCW 43.20.270, 43.20.275. 43.20.280). The Council consists of 17 members: 14 state agencies, boards, and commissions; 2 Governor-appointed consumer representatives; and a Chair who is the Governor or the Governor’s designee.
