How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?

The Foundation seeks a Research Officer with experience in supporting the training, implementation, and management of clinical research, preferably in African settings. The Research Officer will work within the EGPAF research department under the VP of Research to achieve the Foundation’s goal of advancing research and innovations that lead to new, improved, and scalable solutions to ending HIV and AIDS. The Research Officer will support the senior research teams in the US and in EGPAF country programs in all aspects of the conduct of international research studies, from protocol development to regulatory documentation, SOPs, training, study implementation, and reporting/dissemination of results.

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?

• Under the leadership of the VP Research and Directors, contributes to the implementation of the Foundation’s research agenda.

• Supports the development of research protocols on studies related to HIV/TB clinical, implementation, or program effectiveness research in collaboration with other departments throughout the Foundation and country programs.

• Ensures the highest quality scientific, ethical and regulatory standards for all research activities.

• Supports all aspects of the research studies, from protocol development, development of data collection instruments and standard operating procedures, study site preparation and training for execution of the study, study implementation, data management, dissemination to closeout.

• Provides support to country research teams in study specific regulatory and ethical aspects of implementation of research protocols, including preparation of IRB documents, coordination of regulatory submissions in country and in the US, and maintenance of regulatory documents.

• Participates in monitoring the progress of the study through regular study calls, data reviews, visits and correspondence to ensure satisfactory conduct and adherence to procedures.

• Participates in preparation of study reports, abstracts, and manuscripts.

Qualifications: To be successful, you will have:

• Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or equivalent preferably with a focus in maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, TB, or emerging infections.

• Minimum 5 years of research experience, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa, conducting health-related research.

• Ability to travel up to 30% to international sites.

• Knowledge and understanding of HIV, TB, or other infectious diseases in Africa.

• Demonstrated experience in the development, conduct and management of research in LMIC.

• Strong organizational skills, detail- oriented with ability to prioritize, take initiative and follow through.

• Ability to exercise diplomacy and build partnerships and consensus, within teams, governmental agencies and with other stakeholders.

• Results-oriented with a demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with competing priorities.

• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are required. Bonus points if you have:

• French or Portuguese competency is an advantage.
