Position Description: Overview: The Data Management Technician assists with statewide sexually transmitted infections (STI) surveillance efforts within the Virginia Department of Health’s STD Prevention and Surveillance (SPS) program.

Responsibilities include:

- Routinely using a basic knowledge of STIs and related terminology in the review, research, and interpretation of patient data reported on STI laboratory and morbidity reports

- Entering data into relevant disease surveillance data systems

- Maintaining records in an orderly file system

- Storing data in accordance with established protocols for records retention purposes

- Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail

- Providing assistance with other duties related to STI surveillance and data entry, management, and quality assurance activities.

Compensation: $20 per hour

Time Commitment: 40 hours per week

Location: This position is based at the VDH Central Office in Richmond, VA and may be required to report to work at the Central Office up to five days per week.

Position Type: This is a contract position hired and employed directly by 22nd Century Technologies, Inc. The selected candidate will not be considered a state employee and will not receive state benefits. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a background investigation.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:

- Strong computer skills in various computer programs and databases (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Google)

- Strong oral and written communication and customer service skills

- Demonstrated ability to review documents with attention to fine detail

- Independent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills

- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

- Ability to maintain complete confidentiality while working with Protected Health information (PHI)

- High school degree or equivalent training and/or experience

Preferred Qualifications:

- Basic knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment, and prevention of STIs and methods of public health surveillance and disease outbreak investigations

- Experience with data collection, entry, and management
