Join our Medical Test Site Inspection and Investigation Team as an Advisory Laboratorian!
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled individual who possesses professional expertise in laboratory sciences and who is detail oriented.
This recruitment is for a full-time, permanent, Advisory Laboratorian position.

As an Advisory Laboratorian, you’ll support the Department’s mission to work with others to protect and improve the health of people in the state of Washington by providing professional and technical expertise and serve as an agency expert in conducting inspections and investigations of state licensed and federal CLIA certified medical testing facilities recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting on-site and off-site inspections and investigations in multiple geographic areas within Washington State to determine compliance with state licensing and federal CLIA certification standard for medical test sites, applying professional judgement, skills, and technical knowledge. Leading and directing initial and routine inspections and/ or complaint investigation coordination of assigned facilities under the direction of the Medical Test Site Survey and Investigation Manager. Developing an overall approach and creating an inspection or investigation plan by gathering information on past inspections, complaints, current laws and rules, and team member/co-worker input for planning and organizing inspection or investigation processes. Ensuring health and safety standards are in compliance with laws, rules, and regulations. Serving as primary point of contact with the facility representative and Office of Health Systems Oversight management during an inspection or investigation. Conducting on-site follow-up re-visits, when appropriate, at the medical test site to ensure the facility has met established standards or other regulatory requirements included in the plan of correction. Utilizing computer programs and databases in conjunction with state and federal CLIA laws, rules, and regulations to create written reports and give verbal explanations of inspection or investigation findings. Utilizing databases and storage systems to adhere to required document retention timeframes. Participating in legal proceedings related to enforcement actions associated with assigned inspections or investigations.

Qualifications: |
Option 1: A bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, public health, or a closely allied field; AND six (6) or more years of clinical laboratory experience, which includes one (1) or more years of supervisory, consultative, or surveying experience.
Option 2: A master’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, public health, or a closely allied field; AND four (4) years of clinical laboratory experience, which includes one (1) or more years of supervisory, consultative, or surveying experience.
AND (for BOTH above options) the following:
National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), or a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel (NCA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent nationally recognized certification agency.
Experience evaluating principles, practices, techniques, and procedures of medical laboratory work; laboratory specialties such as microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, cytology, histology, and radio bioassay according to state and federal CLIA certification laws, rules, and regulations.
Note: Due to the sensitive nature of work involving vulnerable individuals through facility oversight activities, this position is subject to passing a criminal history background check prior to employment.
