Position Description: THE POSITION The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH), is currently seeking enthusiastic and driven applicants to apply for the position of Epidemiologist 1 (Infectious/Chronic Diseases) to work in the Epidemiology and Emerging Infections Program (EEIP) in the Infectious Diseases (ID) Section.

The mission of the Epidemiology and Emerging Infections Program (EEIP) is to prevent illness, disability, and death in Connecticut residents caused by infectious diseases. We do this by conducting surveillance for reportable infectious diseases, investigating outbreaks, evaluating and promoting prevention, and putting control measures in place. Staff work in partnership with many medical and public health professionals and their affiliates, state and federal officials, other state agencies, and infectious disease experts.

This position will perform cross-cutting responsibilities within EEIP including providing epidemiologic capacity to support food, water, vector- borne and zoonotic disease associated investigation and outbreaks and respond to emerging (or re-emerging) infectious diseases. This position will perform duties related to conducting vector-borne disease and zoonotic disease, hepatitis A, and legionellosis surveillance including but not limited to: case interviews, data entry and management, outreach to reporting entities to obtain clinical and exposure information, assist in outbreak investigations, and providing guidance for the prevention and control of infectious diseases.

HIGHLIGHTS SECTION: Infectious Diseases (ID) Section PROGRAM: Epidemiology and Emerging Infections Program (EEIP) ADDRESS: 410 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT WORK HOURS: Full-time, first shift, 35 hours per week SCHEDULE: Typical work schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00pm. There is an opportunity for a partial telework and flexible/alternate schedule to support a healthy work-life balance.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Five (5) years of experience in a responsible technical or professional capacity in epidemiological investigations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree. A Master's degree in a related discipline including community medicine, public health or a related health science may be substituted for the General Experience. A Doctorate in a related discipline such as medicine, public health or a natural or behavioral science may be substituted for the General Experience. Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working in a public health field, particularly infectious diseases Experience conducting disease surveillance and management or comparable experience, including case investigations, data entry and analysis, and preparation of summary reports of findings Experience using computer software such as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and statistical software (SAS, R) Experience conducting epidemiological investigations involving interviews of cases or healthcare providers using standardized questionnaires or reporting forms Experience communicating epidemiological findings in oral and written formats
