The HIV/STI Perinatal Transmission Case Coordinator will be part of a motivated public health team that seeks to reduce and/or eliminate the transmission of STIs (sexually transmitted infections), HIV, and Hepatitis at Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD). The employee will be responsible for investigating all suspected cases of congenital/perinatal transmission of HIV and syphilis in Baltimore City, and potentially with perinatal Hepatitis and other STI infections. The position will help lead public health efforts to reduce perinatal transmission of infectious diseases. Primary duties include investigation of potential cases of perinatal transmission of infectious diseases. This includes receiving laboratory reports and provider notification calls, calling physicians to inquire about potential cases, and calling and/or visiting individuals to complete disease investigation reports. The employee will investigate potential cases and determine if they meet case definitions for a suspect, probable, or confirmed case. The employee will be trained to complete partner services interviews for persons who are infected with syphilis or HIV as well as maternal interviews of women who deliver an infant with congenital syphilis or congenital HIV. The employee will complete case report forms to submit to MDH and CDC. They will also compile internal reports and summarize findings and reports to BCHD leadership. Work is conducted at Health Department offices, and includes at least 25-50% field work to interview individuals. The employee will also work with Health Department staff to identify how to improve public health systems to optimize prevention and identification of cases of perinatal transmission of Baltimore City Health Department 1001 E. Fayette Street • Baltimore, Maryland 21202 2 STIs, HIV, and hepatitis. They will work with Health Department teams on how to implement improvements in public health interventions to reduce perinatal transmission of infectious diseases. The employee will work closely with the HIV/STI and Hepatitis surveillance teams, Acute Communicable Disease team, HIV/STI Disease Investigation Specialists and Linkage to Care Specialists, HIV/STI prevention team, Sexual Health and Wellness Clinics and Division of Maternal and Child Health. They will also work closely with the BCHD Community STI Prevention coordinator to partner with clinical and non-clinical community organizations on public health prevention initiatives. Once trained in this position, the employee will be expected to work primarily independently with access to subject matter experts when needed. This is a critical position in the STI/HIV bureau and has a great deal of potential to have a significant positive public health impact. A bachelor’s degree in a science or social science field is required. Documented experience in STD or HIV prevention is preferred. This is an Operations Officer I position.
