The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is on a mission to ensure equity and optimal health for all residents of Washington State. As part of our transformational journey, we are seeking a dedicated Epidemiologist 3-Supervisor to lead the Data Equity Unit within the Center for Epidemiology Practice Equity & Assessment (CEPEA).

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Supervision: Inspire and Lead: Supervise and mentor a team of epidemiologists and technical staff to achieve our strategic vision for data equity. Innovate: Enhance health data quality and reporting to identify and address health disparities. Expert Guidance: Serve as a subject matter expert on communicable disease surveillance data, including COVID-19. Data Equity Expertise: Drive Equity Initiatives: Lead data equity and Tribal data sharing efforts. Shape Policy: Interpret data to inform public health policies and decisions. Communicate Effectively: Develop communication strategies that emphasize equity for underserved groups. Collaboration & Coordination: Build Partnerships: Collaborate with public health partners at local, state, and federal levels. Lead Projects: Manage complex epidemiologic projects to align with our mission. Represent CEPEA: Participate in meetings and workgroups, representing our organization. Emergency Preparedness: Be Prepared: Engage in emergency preparedness exercises and provide surge capacity during public health emergencies. Respond Effectively: Collaborate with DOH programs to plan and respond to emergencies.

Qualifications: |
Option 1: Eight (8) or more years of experience in epidemiology or disease surveillance within community organizations, public health agencies, or grassroots initiatives. Five (5) more years of experience Using data to describe factors that affect the health of a community (e.g., income, education, laws, environment, climate change, resilience, homelessness, food security, access to healthcare, equity, distribution of resources and power, social and community engagement, changing demographics)This can be demonstrated through project work, self- directed learning, or contributions to community health research. Three (3) or more years of experience managing peers’ and supervisors’ performance bidirectionally (e.g., define expectations, clarify roles and responsibilities, anticipate problems and solutions, identify opportunities). Demonstrated experience designing, collecting, and analyzing health-related data to investigate factors that affect the health of a community. This includes work on health disparities, conducting needs assessments, and implementing community health programs.
Option 2: A Master’s degree or higher in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, or a related behavioral science Five (5) or more years of experience in epidemiology or disease surveillance. Five (5) or more years of experience using data to describe factors that affect the health of a community (e.g., income, education, laws, environment, climate change, resilience, homelessness, food security, access to healthcare, equity, distribution of resources and power, social and community engagement, changing demographics) Three (3) or more years of experience managing peers’ and supervisors’ performance bidirectionally (e.g., define expectations, clarify roles and responsibilities, anticipate problems and solutions, identify opportunities).
