Position Description: |
This is an opportunity for a temp to perm position here at the Yale School of Public Health. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Healthcare-Associated Infections – Community Interface (HAIC) project coordinator in the Yale Emerging Infections Program (EIP) and will be responsible for the daily activities of the HAIC Candidemia surveillance program and provide support for other HAIC projects as needed (hospital and nursing home HAI/AU prevalence surveys, histoplasmosis/blastomycosis surveillance, and C. difficile surveillance).
Primary responsibilities: work with individual clinical and commercial laboratories serving CT residents to receive electronic line lists of all Candida isolates using established reporting mechanisms; maintain a reporting schedule; access reports entered electronically into CT Electronic Disease Surveillance System (CTEDSS) and from the CT State Public Health Laboratory; enter surveillance data into a REDCap project database developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); review medical records both in office and at hospitals throughout CT to complete the CDC case report form; contact providers to gather required clinical and epidemiological information via FAX, telephone, and secure email; ensure integrity of data in the database through routine data checks and cleaning procedures; establish routine auditing of clinical and commercial laboratories to verify completeness of case ascertainment; conduct annual laboratory survey to gather data on current testing practices related to Candida; securely transmit data to CDC; assist in data analyses, report generation, and data close- out; participate in conference calls and face-to-face meetings with CDC, CT DPH, and other EIP site staff to discuss surveillance procedures, including protocol and case report form implementation and standardization of data collection and data entry—this may require travel to Hartford, Atlanta, GA, and possibly other states.
Secondary responsibilities: assist with other activities as necessary to maintain the daily functions of the EIP HAIC Program (C. difficile surveillance and HAI/AU prevalence surveys); assist with other special EIP projects as needed—such activities may include emergency public health response to disease outbreaks (case or control follow-up, chart review, telephone interview, etc.) or special investigations as indicated by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Qualifications: |
Required Skill/Ability 1: Understanding of public health infectious disease surveillance methods and procedures. Required Skill/Ability 2: Car and willingness to travel throughout the state of Connecticut (travel reimbursement provided). Required Skill/Ability 3: Demonstrated intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word and Excel, and data management and database software. Required Skill/Ability 4: Good verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Required Skill/Ability 5: Strong time management skills and ability to independently prioritize tasks. Ability to manage flexible work hours required to accommodate project goals.
