Position Description: |
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH), Division of Clinical Epidemiology, is seeking a Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Data Analyst. The HAI Data Analyst will work with the VDH HAI and Antibiotic Resistance Program to conduct surveillance and perform in-depth analysis of data reported from healthcare facilities, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare settings. The individual in this position will download, format, and analyze a variety of public health data and produce reports, presentations, and visualizations for various audiences. Location: This position will be based in Richmond, VA with the option for remote telework four days per week. Number of positions available: 1 This is a contract position funded until July 2026; there may be an option to extend the contract if additional funds are awarded. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Analyze and interpret healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and COVID-19 data to determine infection risks to patients/residents, staff, and the community 2. Design data analyses based on scientific questions and existing data 3. Generate routine data reports in Excel, SAS, or R for internal and external partners 5. Perform analyses on data to create new impactful insights to use in infographics and other content for the VDH website 7. Help conduct internal and external data validation of HAI data submitted to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) 8. Support efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained 9. Ensure that the uses of data through reports and queries are accurate 10. Assist with timelines, meeting preparations, and media requests as needed 11. Evaluate HAI/AR Program initiatives to show impact of related activities 12. Contribute to team effort by assisting with any other duties as assigned
Salary Range: The salary range is up to $38 per hour, commiserate with training and experience. Funding for this position is available through July 2026, and there may be an option to extend the contract if additional funds are awarded. Up to 40 hours per week.

Qualifications: |
Minimum Qualifications: • Experience with database management systems, especially those used to manage population- based disease data • Working knowledge of biostatistics, analysis and interpretation of data, and data management techniques • Basic knowledge of and skill sets related to statistical software packages • Exceptional software skills (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, Word) • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills • Strong analytical and organizational skills • Ability to work with all levels of staff and with teams • Ability to work independently following standard policies and procedures • At least one year of REDCap experience • At least two years of experience with SAS or R/R Studio Preferred Qualifications: Healthcare-Associated Infections Data Analysis Virginia Department of Health • Master's degree in public health or a related field • Experience working on health equity initiatives or projects that address disparities in healthcare access and/or outcomes • At least one year of experience with Tableau • At least one year of experience with SQL Server • Knowledgeable about healthcare-associated infections and/or the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)
