Position Description: The Joint School of Public Health (JSPH) at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research (ADR). This is a 12-month senior faculty and leadership position, with a desired start date in the Summer or Fall of 2025. The key responsibility of this position is to provide executive level leadership in the development and enhancement of the JSPH research enterprise. The salary is negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and highly competitive with peer institutions. The JSPH offers several accredited public health programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health, the Bachelor of Science in Public Health, the Masters of Public Health (MPH), and the PhD program in Health Services Research. JSPH also has a Master of Health Administration (MHA) program. The Joint School of Public Health Initiative is a collaboration between Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University. Qualifications: • Have a terminal doctoral degree (Ph.D., Dr.P.H., or Sc.D) in a public health discipline or an M.D. with a master’s degree from an accredited School of Public Health. • Qualify for an appointment at the Associate or Full Professor rank with tenure. o Specific information on ranks and tenure as per ODU faculty handbook ? https://itsapps.odu.edu/ao/facultyhandbook/in dex.php?page=ch02s24.html ? https://itsapps.odu.edu/ao/facultyhandbook/in dex.php?page=ch02s12.html • Demonstrate a significant scholarly record of publications in a public health discipline. • Demonstrate successful acquisition and sustainability of external funding and grants, including investigator-initiated or unsolicited grants. • Demonstrate successful grant and project management as a Principal Investigator. • Have a significant experience with effectively mentoring faculty in their research efforts. • Have administrative experience in an academic setting.

• Have experience with strategic planning, including articulation of a clear vision for research development in an academic setting, optimizing resource utilization, and securing new resources. Preferred qualifications: • Significant knowledge on current federal funding agency strategic initiatives and focus areas. • Experience with budgeting for research projects and initiatives, including approaches for optimizing existing resources • Ability to work with members of the leadership team to address human resource (HR) problems and issues, including research project staffing, contracts, and best practices. • Ability to assist with navigating issues related to research regulatory requirements, including human subjects, animal care and use, and/or biohazard requirements. • Experience with identifying and securing new resources to facilitate/elevate faculty led research programs, including familiarity with public health entrepreneurism and strategies for promoting research entrepreneurship.
